Job Summary:

This position is responsible for overseeing the movement, sorting, and distribution of mail for LOGCAP. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the efficient and secure processing of mail, including the issuance of money orders and the sale of postage stamps.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the movement, sorting, and distribution of mail for LOGCAP
  • Issue money orders and sell postage stamps
  • Perform a variety of detailed accounting duties in accordance with standard accounting procedures
  • Verify mail pieces on incoming mail manifests and prepare outgoing mail manifests
  • Separate accountable mail from ordinary mail
  • Randomly X-ray selected mailbags and parcels for incendiary explosive devices and other prohibited items
  • Open worker mailbags and letter trays, and sort mail by authorized APOs or assigned units
  • Conduct unit mail calls and provide customer assistance to unit mail clerks
  • Distribute incoming mail to authorized unit mail clerks and ensure unit mail clerks sign for custody of service mail
  • Redirect mis-sent mail for forwarding to the correct location
  • Separate and re-wrap mail parcels received in damaged condition and re-seal envelopes received in opened condition
  • Endorse damaged or unopened mail
  • Perform directory service functions on mail and use SPRINT and CAMALS charts to forward mail to appropriate locations
  • Perform postal supply functions, including managing stocks, inventory, ordering, and receiving for assigned postal facilities
  • Retrieve outgoing mail from USPS mail drop-boxes located throughout assigned areas of the base installation
  • Date stamp and consolidate all mail in letter trays or flat baskets for dispatch
  • Receive outgoing official mail from the base installation official mail section
  • Operate or learn to operate Retail System Software to provide postal finance services to authorized patrons
  • Provide customer services to authorized patrons, explaining available postal services
  • Perform parcel inspection functions, inspecting patron's parcels/letters prior to entering the postal system
  • Perform closeout procedures of pouching and tagging all outgoing mailbags and OSP for dispatch to assorted APO camps, U.S., European, or intra-theater gateways
  • Ensure slide labels are date-stamped and appropriate gateway fly tags are on OSP and mailbags
  • Annotate weights of all outgoing mail and record each weight on outgoing mail manifest worksheets
  • Process required mail manifests to dispatch mail to APO camps, JMMT, or Mail Control Activity (MCA) personnel at the local international airport
  • Daily record total volumes and weights on mail dispatch logs
  • Ensure mail trucks staged overnight are secured using locks and seals, recording seal numbers for new day confirmation to ensure mail was not compromised
  • Load outgoing mail on pallets, airline shipping cages, and igloos, and mail trucks
  • Prepare required mail manifests to relinquish custody of mail for dispatch from JMMT
  • Maintain high security of postal facilities at all times, ensuring unauthorized personnel requiring access in operations areas are escorted to all areas in the facility
  • Perform additional duties approved and required by the company, including safety representative, fire warden, etc.
  • Perform general housekeeping and custodial services in JMMT or APO
  • Perform other related tasks as directed
