The Assistant Fire Chief plays a vital role in ensuring the fire and emergency services department operates effectively and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Leading a team of professionals across various functions within the discipline is a critical aspect of this role.
  2. Evaluating staff performance against objectives and providing coaching for professional growth and process improvements are essential duties.
  3. The Assistant Fire Chief will manage the FES Training program and develop the annual department training plan per DOD instructions.
  4. Collaboration with training officers and department leaders to develop training programs supporting fire department requirements, in accordance with NFPA, Army, and other regulations, is also required.
  5. Conducting needs analysis using response data to tailor training programs for department operations is a key responsibility.
  6. The Assistant Fire Chief will ensure personnel competency through training effectiveness evaluations and manage DOD firefighter certification programs.
  7. This position involves creating job performance requirements, lesson plans, schedules, instructional methods, media, curriculum, and evaluation tools.
  8. Performing fire ground/emergency management, Safety Officer, or other roles as needed is also part of this role.
  9. The Assistant Fire Chief will develop and oversee the Fire Department safety program in line with NFPA 1500.
  10. Cordinating training efforts with shift personnel, Army agencies, and local emergency response teams, developing contacts and resources, is another important responsibility.
  11. Providing instruction to firefighters, Army personnel, or civilians as required is an essential duty.
  12. Participating and leading community events to promote the Fire Department's image is also expected.
  13. Maintaining relationships with other fire and rescue agencies to develop mutual aid training for effective multi-agency responses is a key aspect of this role.
