Job Title: Fire Department Leader

The Assistant Fire Chief is responsible for leading a team of professionals in the fire and emergency services department.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Directs a professional team encompassing a range of functions within the discipline.
  • Evaluates staff, comparing objectives and achievements in the assessment.
  • Coaches employees in their professional career development and process improvements.
  • Manages training programs, developing annual training plans and ensuring competency of personnel.
  • Develops job performance requirements, lesson plans, training schedules, instructional methods, and curriculum.
  • Performs firefighting/emergency management functions, safety officer, or other positions as required.
Qualifications:
  • Education/Certifications: One year of related experience may be substituted for one year of education if degree is required.
    • Associate's or higher degree in fire science or related fields is preferred.
    • Fire Officer III, Fire Instructor III, Fire Inspector II, Hazardous Materials Incident Command, Airport Firefighter certifications are desired.
    • Ability to obtain host nation driver license.
    • Secret Clearance Eligibility is mandatory.
  • Experience:
    • Approximately five (5) years combined experience in a local authority, civil aviation, or military fire service is required.
    • Two years at the supervisory level are necessary.
    • IFSAC or ProBoard Certification is required.
  • Skills:
    • Advanced knowledge of fire department training and education programs.
    • Knowledge of current national and international trends and developments related to fire service organization, management, and administrative principles.
    • Public and private organizations supporting the Fire and Emergency Services and their functions are expected.
  • Working Conditions:
    • Must be capable of working in extreme weather conditions with temperatures exceeding 120 degrees Fahrenheit.
    • Indoor and/or outdoor environment with adverse and harsh conditions, including industrial production environment conditions.
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 30 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
    • Heavy lifting, stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, prolonged sitting, and working with or in areas where a potential exists for exposure to physical, chemical, or biological agents.
