Materials Examiner and Validator

This role involves examining, identifying, and evaluating various materials to determine their condition and suitability for storage or disposal.

  • Examine incoming materials to assess their condition and identify any damage or defects.
  • Review documentation accompanying materials to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Determine the acceptability of usable property and assign appropriate classification instructions for warehousing.
  • Verify demilitarization codes and maintain segregated storage of property requiring special handling.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform moderate to heavy lifting when moving material by hand or using hand-trucks.
  • Operate forklifts and related materials handling equipment to move, load, and unload palletized materials, supplies, and equipment.
  • Work in warehouses that may be hot, cold, damp, and drafty, and in outside areas exposed to varying weather conditions.
Requirements:
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Tour of Duty: Set Schedule.
  • Security Requirements: Non-Critical Sensitive.
  • Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA): Exempt.
  • Selective Service Requirement: Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered or exempt from Selective Service.
Working Conditions:
  • Exposed to physical hazards normally associated with scrap yards, open storage, and warehouse operations.
  • Must exercise precautions to avoid injury from carelessness of others in operation of fork lifts and other equipment in the work area.
  • As a condition of employment, incumbent shall adhere to all safety standards, rules, regulations, and procedures.
Physical Effort:
  • Performs moderate to heavy lifting when moving material by hand or hand-truck.
  • Lifts or carries items that weigh up to 50 lb.
Qualifications:
  • Applicants will be rated in accordance with the Office of Personnel Management Qualification Standard for Trades and Labor Occupations.
  • Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs.
