Materials Examiner and Processor

As a Materials Examiner and Processor, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of materials handling operations. Your primary responsibility will be to examine and determine the condition and disposition of various materials, including receipt, examination, and determination of usability.

The ideal candidate will have excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work accurately in a fast-paced environment. You must be able to visually inspect materials for obvious signs of condition and determine acceptability. Additionally, you will need to determine condition and reportability, as well as special handling requirements, and assign appropriate classification instructions for warehousing.

You will also be responsible for verifying accuracy of demilitarization codes, taking action to challenge questionable items/codes, and maintaining segregated storage of property requiring demilitarization. Furthermore, you will ensure proper certification is attached to turn-in documents when demilitarized by host or generating activity.

This position requires physical effort, moderate to heavy lifting when moving material by hand or hand-truck. You may lift or carry items that weigh up to 50 lb. The heavier items are moved with weight handling equipment or with assistance from other workers. Perform work on hard surfaces, over rough terrain, and on forklifts. Assignments require prolonged working in tiring and uncomfortable positions, standing, walking, bending, stooping, and pushing and pulling material.

The working conditions are performed inside warehouses that may be hot, cold, damp, and drafty and in outside areas, i.e., dock areas, scrap yards, or other areas exposed to varying weather conditions. Is exposed to physical hazards normally associated with scrap yard, open storage, and warehouse operations, including various kinds of material handling equipment and hand and power tools. Wears safety equipment as required. Incumbent must exercise precautions to avoid injury to/from carelessness of others in operation of fork lifts and other equipment in the work area.
