About the Role:
- This position will be physically located in Kuwait, supporting various projects.
The Telecommunication Technician will work under the supervision of a senior technician and/or communications manager, demonstrating expertise in working with specialized tools and operating an OTDR and other basic test equipment. The individual must possess extensive knowledge and understanding of fiber optic systems and data communication, as well as be capable of designing, installing, troubleshooting, and maintaining telecommunication systems and adjunct equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Performs system analysis in support of the telecommunication system, identifying and assessing user requirements.
- Operates, maintains, and installs communications systems, including outside plant (OSP) and inside plant (ISP).
- Utilizes various test equipment to isolate, identify, and analyze equipment, troubleshoots issues, and takes appropriate action to resolve problems.
- Must be able to respond to emergency service-affecting situations for restoration of communication systems.
- Receives user-initiated work orders through a ticketing system.
- Performs preventive and routine maintenance.
- Reads and effectively communicates technical documentation.
- Performs other duties assigned or as required.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Education/Certifications:
- High School Diploma
- College degree or Equivalent
- BICSI certification or equivalent is preferred
- Fiber Certification preferred
- Customer Service Training
- Experience:
- Approximately 3-5 years' work experience in the telecommunication field, installing, troubleshooting, repair, splicing, and terminating, and site surveys.
- Knowledgeable in the use of power tools and test equipment.
- Knowledgeable in reading drawings and understanding the communication installation process.
- Knowledgeable to act on unique or recurring customer problems.
- Skill:
- Capable of effectively communicating technical information in English, both written and verbal.
- Must be capable of using a variety of test equipment to isolate, identify, and analyze equipment, troubleshoot issues, and take appropriate action to resolve problems.
- Must have a solid working knowledge of standard network physical layer components.
- Working Conditions:
- Must be capable of working in extreme weather conditions with temperatures exceeding 120 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Indoor and/or outdoor environment with very adverse and harsh conditions.
- Includes some industrial production environment conditions as well.
- Physical Requirements:
- Light work, exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Work may require heavy lifting, stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, prolonged sitting, and working with or in areas where a potential could exist for exposure to physical, chemical, or biological agents.
- Employee use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required for some situations. PPE includes, but is not limited to, head, foot, torso, respiratory, vision, and hearing protective devices.
- Must comply with all Fire and Safety Regulations and post policies.
