The Army Aircraft Mechanic AM-2 (UH-60, CH-47, AH-64 Sheetmetal/Structures) plays a critical role in maintaining, modifying, and integrating aircraft structure and its parts. This position requires exceptional knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modifications and repair.

  • Key responsibilities include maintaining and modifying various components of aircraft sheet metal.
  • Responsibilities also involve repairing, reworking, installing, and fabricating complex aircraft structural assemblies, both internal and external.
  • Additional duties include laying out plans, fabrication, and installation models for modifications.
  • Balancing rotary-wing aircraft controls and applying primers/paints on aircraft surfaces is also a key responsibility.
  • Fabricating structural parts using metal-forming techniques and fiberglass materials is another essential task.
  • Inspecting and removing components, studying technical manuals, blueprints, and engineering drawings are also critical responsibilities.
  • Providing assistance to aircraft technicians and mechanics on various tasks and removing and disassembling defective parts of the aircraft are additional key responsibilities.
  • Maintaining and keeping track of all maintenance records is a critical function.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Five years of recent applicable aircraft maintenance experience is required, specifically on UH-60, CH-47, AH-64 aircraft.
  • All experience must be within the five most recent years.
  • U.S. military technical school or specialized training course is desired, certification of education level is required.
  • FAA A&P Certificate Experience: Two years aviation maintenance experience, and two years' hands-on experience on assigned aircraft MDS UH-60, CH-47, AH-64 is required.
  • No FAA A&P Certificate Experience: Three years aviation maintenance experience, three years rotary wing aircraft experience, and two years on assigned UH-60, CH-47, AH-64 Mission Design Series (MDS) is required.
  • A valid U.S. Passport is required for international travel, with a minimum of six blank pages and two plus years validity before expiration date at time of hire.
  • Must be able to pass CENTCOM medical requirements for deployment (to attend CRC/DIDC Training).
  • Must be able to obtain Kuwait Visa.

Security Clearance and Background Check

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain US Govt Security Clearance Public Trust (NAC-I T1). US Citizenship is required to obtain clearance and for facility access and credentials/authorization at work location.

Technical Skills and Abilities

  • Extensive knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modifications and repair.
  • Basic knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting, repair procedures, and replacement of parts.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical theory and thorough knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, sheet metal brakes, and sheers.
  • Working knowledge of technical publications and Logistics Information Systems.
  • Able to prioritize workloads to maintain schedules on assigned projects and lead teams through more complex aircraft relevant tasks.
  • Possess level of experience to inspect all required aeronautical type maintenance to be performed by Mechanics.
  • Incumbent receives technical guidance, as required, from supervisor or higher-level technician, will occasionally be required to lead teams through more complex aircraft relevant tasks, and may be required to make entries in aircraft logs and records.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to walk and stand on level and/or inclined surfaces for extended periods throughout the day.
  • Must be able to climb stairs, ramps, ladders, and work stands.
  • Must be able to crouch, crawl, grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbow/knee, and reach above/below shoulders.
  • May be required to lift heavy objects whose weight may exceed 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to type using a standard keyboard to communicate through e-mail and various software applications.
  • Will handle dirty parts and lubricants.
  • Will be required to wear proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Must be able to pass a Respirator Physical and Fit Test qualification.
  • May be required to operate power vehicles, machinery, hand tools, ground support equipment, forklift, etc.
  • Must be able to lift/push/pull minimum of 50 pounds.
  • May work in maintenance shop or outside.
  • Must be able to work in a shop where environment is drafty, noisy, and dirty.
  • May be exposed to extreme noise from operating equipment.
  • May be exposed to electrical shock hazards or work near moving mechanical parts or vehicles.
  • May be expected to work in austere environments and all-weather conditions.
