To support continued growth, we are currently recruiting an experienced Head of Department for Building Services. Working on high-profile projects and reporting to the Practice Director, your role will be to lead the Department by effectively managing the performance, development, and morale of staff. You will also be accountable for coordinating the production efforts of the Department, in cooperation with other discipline departments, against technical guidelines, standards, and procedures, while maintaining the highest technical and ethical standards and maximizing profitability. Role ProfilePeople and Growth
  1. Develops and maintains a stable, motivated staff with high morale.
  2. Hires competent staff, in coordination with the CHRO.
  3. Advocates, demonstrates, and demands appropriate professional behavior and takes corrective action when necessary.
  4. Conducts staff performance and competency appraisals in a fair and balanced way.
  5. Assists the CHRO in conducting salary reviews and recommends salary adjustments and/or bonuses.
  6. Identifies training and development needs and supervises agreed training plans.
  7. Develops and implements a succession plan for all key staff.
  8. Mentors staff in professional demeanor, technical competence, team building, process improvement, and client relations.
  9. Develops new Departmental competencies to support targeted markets.
  10. Ensures that Departmental staff CVs are updated on a regular basis.
  11. Maintains current registrations of professional staff with the relevant statutory and professional organizations as required.
Qualifications
  1. Ability to think analytically.
  2. Demonstrate the ability to lead and manage a team effectively.
  3. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  4. Has the ability to manage their own time effectively.
  5. Strong team working skills.
  6. Customer focused.
  7. Flexible in their approach to work.
  8. Record of leadership capabilities in areas of communication, professional approach, personnel, and design management.
  9. Capable in marketing Building Services Engineering.
  10. Thorough expertise in the field of Building Services, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering and working knowledge of allied design disciplines.
  11. Bachelor's Degree in Building Services, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering from a recognized University. Registered/Licensed Engineer affiliated with a recognized professional body such as CIBSE, IMechE.
