As a shift supervisor, the Watch Officer (WO) performs duties as a senior NOC person in the absence of the Chief Watch Officer, supervising the operation of automation systems.

Job Description

The WO oversees high-level network performance and fault management under technical guidance and direction, possessing expertise in both systems architecture and network design. They manage, monitor, and maintain situational awareness of all networks and systems under NOC responsibility, resolving issues and tracking progress through complete resolution.

The Network Controller analyzes and troubleshoots networks, including network security policies and procedures, network performance tuning and trending analysis, and opens trouble tickets. They generate reports and updates trouble tickets as required.

Responsibilities

  • Manage, monitor, and maintain situational awareness of all network and system entities under NOC responsibility.
  • Act as single point of contact for all communications needs and perform Enterprise services as required.
  • Attend regular meetings to keep parties apprised of network and communications/data systems changes, improvements, and project progression.
  • Schedule and prioritize individual workload and provide status of tasking to the NOC Chief Watch Officer.
  • Focal point for reporting all incidents and user POC for Service Requests.
  • Facilitate problem resolution by monitoring and reviewing tickets, gathering information on outages, and updating service tickets throughout the resolution process.
  • Provide technical and operational support to functional users by managing, monitoring, and maintaining situational awareness of networks and systems under NOC responsibility.
  • Initial response to outage, degradation, or other events affecting systems and networks under RNOSC responsibility.
  • Responsible for ownership of Incident (Remedy) tickets from start until resolution and confirmation and closure of ticket once escalated to TNOSC.
  • Assist in preparing and presenting networks and systems outage reports for NOC to various agencies.
  • Monitor and track all networks and systems under NOC responsibility and assist in completing outage trend analysis reports.
  • Provide operational status reporting to RCC-SWA relating to network operations.
  • Enforce IA in accordance with AR 25-2 and provide initial triage on suspicious activities and evaluate them in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Process and track authorized service interruptions for subordinate facilities for routine maintenance and other scheduled service interruptions.
  • Conduct systematic audits on all information provided by sites to include database backups, network diagrams, and end of lifecycle data.
