Retail Category Manager

Job Summary:

  • This is a critical role that requires expertise in category management, retail strategy, and leadership to drive sales, profitability, and market share growth.

The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the development and execution of category strategies, managing a defined category or sub-category, and consistently delivering sales and profit goals.

Main Accountabilities:

  1. Partner with senior buyers to establish and execute category plans that meet sales and profitability targets, maximizing market share
  2. Develop and maintain a compelling product mix, including brands, products, and agencies, to drive freshness and profitability
  3. Coordinate with the merchandising team to optimize product placement and inventory levels, ensuring effective display principles and minimal waste
  4. Invest in the growth and development of team members through training, coaching, and mentoring
  5. Lead the development and implementation of promotional strategies, assessing their effectiveness and adjusting course as needed
  6. Collaborate with the marketing team to develop and execute advertising and marketing plans, analyzing results and making data-driven decisions
  7. Manage order and replenishment processes to maintain optimal inventory, availability, and aged stock levels, minimizing costs and maximizing efficiency
  8. Support the development and launch of new products, working closely with suppliers and internal stakeholders
  9. Analyze market trends, competitor intelligence, and customer feedback to inform pricing and assortment decisions
  10. Streamline business processes and enhance customer satisfaction through collaboration with service and support teams
  11. Develop and execute online category development and promotional strategies to drive e-commerce growth and competitiveness
  12. Negotiate commercial terms, build strong relationships with suppliers, and oversee range development, promotional, and marketing initiatives
  13. Optimize in-store layouts, displays, and space management through planograms and store visits, ensuring a compelling shopping experience
  14. Conduct regular site visits to core stores and competitors, identifying opportunities for improvement and sharing insights with the wider team
