Description

This is a role that involves operating a flexographic printing press to print designs or lettering on rolls of flexible plastic film, paper, and nonabsorbent stock. The printed materials will be used in making products such as plastic, paper, or waxed paper bags, and paper drinking cups.

The job requires the individual to read job orders, mount specified rubber plates and printing dies on cylinders, install cylinders on shafts, and secure assemblies in beds of presses.

Additionally, the person will fill dye fonts with prescribed inks or dyes, move levers to engage dye rolls, adjust positions of cylinders to print two or more colors without overlapping or smearing previously printed areas.

They will also insert shafts through cores of paper or plastic rolls and secure rolls on presses in feed positions, splice ends of rolls to trailer sheets remaining in presses, and turn handwheels to regulate roll tensions and feeds as directed.

The individual will start presses, adjusting speeds, tensions, and alignments of printing plates as necessary. They will cut samples of printed materials from ends of printed rolls and inspect for imperfections such as blurred or off-center impressions.

The job may also involve cleaning rubber plates, cylinders, and dye fonts using solvents, lubricating presses as needed using grease guns, mixing inks or dyes to produce desired colors, operating presses equipped with laminator attachments to print and laminate polyethylene or cellophane sheeting, or operating presses that print, cut, and fold paper stock to make paper napkins.
