EYFS Teacher plays a significant role in assisting the school to improve student performance and educational outcomes determined by the school strategic plan and state wide priorities and contributing to the development and implementation of school policies and priorities. A critical component of this work will focus on increasing the knowledge base of staff within their school about student learning and high quality instruction to assist their school to define quality teacher practice.
- Teaches by creating a flexible program and an environment favourable to learning and personal growth.
- Encourages students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to obtain a good foundation for continuous growth and development.
- Provides students with experiences which integrate the affective, cognitive and psychomotor dimensions of learning.
- Establishes effective rapport with students and their parents.
- Assists students in developing positive feelings toward themselves and others.
- Works in the school's best interest, to promote its good name, support its members and act in a collegial manner.
- Strives to achieve the highest professional standards in all they do at and for the school.
- May be required to undertake other duties in addition to their rostered teaching duties provided the responsibility is appropriate to the salary range, qualifications, training and experience of the teacher.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensure adequate planning and preparation of teaching materials against syllabus specifications and key stage requirements.
- Ensure effective use of baseline data to facilitate quality 'target setting' to enable students to maximise potential and to assist in measuring value added.
- Ensure that planning documentation is accurately reflected in the delivery of the curriculum.
- Prepare effective lessons, instruct, and motivate students in all course study utilizing classical traditional methods of instruction.
- Assign lessons and correct classwork and homework in a timely manner.
- Administer formative and summative assessments to evaluate student progress, record results, and issue reports to inform parents of progress.
- Provide academic interventions for struggling students.
- Maintain student grades, classroom calendar, and student-parent communication via the school's online grading and communication tool.
- Maintain discipline in the classroom.
- Maintain a classroom that is conducive to learning, safe, attractive and stimulates a spirit of inquiry.
- Set a good housekeeping example in the classroom and encourage students to follow this example.
- Regularly communicate with students and parents to discuss student progress – positive and negative.
- Participate in required faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences and teacher training workshops.
- Inspire, praise, and correct students with consistency, care, and interest to encourage academic success and promote virtue.
- Perform duties such as sponsoring one or more activities or student organizations, assisting students in selecting courses of study, and counselling students in adjustment and academic problems.
- Actively participate in marketing and student recruiting activities as necessary.
- Perform special projects, during and after school hours, and other duties as assigned (after school hours may include, but are not limited to, tutoring, morning and afternoon student drop-off and pick-up duty, pageants and award ceremonies).
- Read and comply with the Employee Handbook, the Student-Parent Handbook, the Campus Handbook, and other manuals and procedures documents.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Students:
The Teacher should:
- Ensure the physical, academic and social well-being of students in their charge.
- Ensure that students behave and are dressed in an acceptable way.
- Monitor students' performance and their use of the student organizer.
- Whenever possible, encourage students as per the school rewards policy.
- Whenever appropriate, discipline students in line with the school sanctions policy.
Communication:
The Teacher should:
- Inform all Subject Leader, Key Leader and/or class tutor about any students achieving excellent results or making excellent progress/effort or encountering difficulties.
- Ensure adequate communication with the Subject Leader, colleagues, students and parents.
- Ensure that the Subject Leader and the learning support department are aware of both students with learning difficulties and those with exceptional ability.
- Ensure that the form tutor is made aware of any medical problems students may have.
- Ensure that issues regarding health and safety are raised, via line managers, with the management.
- Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and parents concerning students' academic, social and behavioural progress.
- Cooperate with professional staff and support personnel in assessing and helping students with health, attitude, learning and behavioural problems.
- Communicate and cooperate with other professional staff in academic and personal growth areas.
- Attend and/or conduct staff meetings and participate on committees within area of responsibility.
Management:
- Select and request appropriate books and instructional materials and maintain required inventory records.
- Provide directions and materials for substitute teachers. Plan for and supervise classroom aides, guests and volunteers.
- Prepare and maintain accurate and complete records and reports as required by law, state directives, school policy and administrative regulations.
- Share the responsibility for the supervision and care of school inventory, proper and safe use of facilities, equipment, and supplies, and report safety hazards promptly.
Additional Responsibilities:
- A teacher can expect the full support of his/her Subject Leader and of the Leadership Group. He/she is invited to discuss openly matters of concern, areas of interest or other relevant matters with them and with colleagues.
- It is the expectation of the school that teachers may, in some circumstances, be required to teach classes that are not their primary subject areas.
- Comply with Kuwait's approved Code of Ethics of the Education Profession and uphold and enforce rules, administrative directives and regulations, school board policies, and local, state and federal regulations.
- Articulate and facilitate the implementation of the mission and values of the school.
- Maintain professional relationships and work cooperatively with employees, the community and other professionals.
- Maintain professional competence through individual and staff training, in-service educational activities and self-selected professional growth activities.
- Conform to school policies including attendance, absences and evaluations.
- Attendance must be adequate to acceptably perform listed job functions.
- Manage the repetitive instructional preparation, review and grading of student assignments without experiencing undue stress (which leads to emotional detachment from the teaching process and to ineffectiveness in the classroom).
- Maintain high emotional energy and display enthusiasm for the subject matter and individual student effort.
- Develop effective coping strategies for dealing with the fatigue and stress of ongoing involvement in teaching, supervising, and monitoring of students.
Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Passion for students.
- Passion for and strong knowledge of the instructional academic content.
- Ability to model virtue, and teach virtue through the curriculum.
- Understanding of and passion for classical education.
- Ability to learn and implement classical teaching curricula and methods.
- Ability to maintain a classroom of approximately 20-25 students.
- Ability and patience to work interactively with students.
- Ability to understand the academic needs of students.
- Strong organizational, time management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships.
- Ability to communicate with all levels of students, their parents, the community, peers, campus administration, superintendents, and corporate staff.
- Ability to interpret policy, procedures, and student data such as diagnostic test results, state assessments scoring, and grade point average.
- Ability to transition with changes.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Ability to travel as necessary (i.e. field trips, class trips, trainings, etc.)
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Education or relevant degree with valid professional teaching qualification.
- MA in Education or Master's in Management in specific.
- A minimum of 3 or more years of teaching experience needed in British Curriculum.
