Job Description

The Maintenance Engineer will provide engineering solutions through hands-on breakdown maintenance, planned preventative maintenance (PPM), and implementation of improvement projects across the Packaged Gases Separation Unit production facilities. This role ensures the compliance of plant and equipment with engineering best practices, IMS standards, and safety protocols, while maintaining operational excellence and equipment reliability.

Maintenance Operations
  • Perform timely and efficient maintenance in collaboration with the production team or subcontractors, ensuring minimal downtime.
  • Conduct repair and replacement of plant equipment parts, including but not limited to breathing air compressors, reciprocating compressors, filling/vacuum pumps, and cryogenic pumps.
  • Create and execute preventive maintenance (PM) schedules and corrective maintenance tasks, ensuring accurate updates in systems such as CATALYST and Intelex.
  • Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly inspections, maintaining statutory logs and addressing defects promptly.
Equipment Management
  • Monitor and evaluate the performance of critical equipment (e.g., pump filling stations, Nitrous Oxide plant, Dry Ice plant, Acetylene plant, and Helium filling units) to ensure operations meet design specifications.
  • Maintain up-to-date records on equipment calibration, certifications, and performance reports.
  • Ensure sufficient spare part inventory, optimizing stock levels to maintain 100% reliability.
  • Supervise installation, commissioning, and maintenance of new equipment, ensuring adherence to best practices.
Planning and Coordination
  • Plan and supervise daily maintenance activities, coordinating with operations teams for seamless execution.
  • Support CAPEX projects by providing accurate information and assisting in scheduling resources.
  • Track schedules, including projected delivery times for ordered parts, and provide regular updates to stakeholders.
  • Liaise with vendors, suppliers, and contractors for maintenance and procurement activities.
Documentation and Reporting
  • Maintain accurate maintenance logs, equipment performance records, and compliance documentation.
  • Generate reports on maintenance performance and submit findings to management.
  • Develop and present departmental budgets for approval, ensuring alignment with operational needs.
Supervision and Training
  • Supervise fabrication, electrical activities, and annual maintenance contracts (e.g., firefighting systems, air conditioning, refrigeration).
  • Train employees on safety, environmental awareness, and operational procedures.
Improvement Projects
  • Lead small installation, improvement, and excellence projects within the production facilities.
  • Analyze operational data to inform decision-making and implement efficiency improvements.
  • Ensure continuous improvement of processes, minimizing downtime and maximizing productivity.
Safety and Compliance
  • Identify and mitigate hazards in collaboration with the HSE Specialist, ensuring employee safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Drive safety initiatives, including and conduct safety meetings to promote hazard elimination.
  • Report all incidents, accidents, and unsafe conditions promptly to the supervisor.
  • Uphold environmental standards, ensuring operations are conducted sustainably.
Desired Candidate Profile
  • Previous experience within the Manufacturing Sector, Chemical or Oil industry along with experience of process excellence is a must.
  • Solid background and experience in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Good knowledge / understanding of plant / process Instrumentation and controls, electrical components and safety systems.
  • Knowledge of Pressure Safety Systems Regulation and written schemes is essential.
  • Previous experience of Permit to Work systems.
  • Works on own initiative and able to prioritise workload.
  • PLC, SCADA, drives and automation experience would be desirable.
  • Knowledge of Cryogenic processes and cryogenic storage and pumping systems would be desirable.
  • Compressor and Cooling systems would be desirable.
  • Familiarity with regulatory and governmental requirements, ISO processes including permit workflows.
