I. General
At the rig site, the Wellsite Leader (WSL) is the senior representative of SLB and is responsible for planning, coordination, leading, and executing the well operations program.

II. Relationship

  • Reports directly to the Well Superintendent or Drilling Manager.
  • Acts as a mentor for wellsite engineers.
  • Interacts with the client wellsite representative (if present), Drilling Contractor Supervisors, and Service Company Engineers.

III. Responsibilities

QHSE

  • Provides clear leadership in all aspects of health, safety, and environmental (HSE) protection, ensuring safe working practices are followed.
  • Conducts well operations safely, in accordance with the approved well operations program, policies, standards, procedures, and regulatory requirements, within the allocated time and budget, with optimal resource use.
  • Follows the roles and responsibilities outlined in the Standing Orders for Wellsite Leaders.

Planning and Coordination

  • Organizes and leads pre-job safety and operational meetings related to well operations.
  • Leads daily planning meetings and discusses operations with toolpusher, segment, and third-party supervisors.
  • Updates forecast and 7-day planner to anticipate resource requirements and optimize service efficiency.
  • Ensures equipment and services comply with contractual obligations.
  • Manages inventory of tangible items such as cement, barite, bits, and rental equipment.

Operations

  • Ensures operations are conducted to prevent well control risks, stuck pipe, and other hazards.
  • Issues standing instructions for drillers for each tour, routed through the toolpusher/rig manager.
  • Ensures SOPs are followed and checklists completed.
  • Prepares detailed procedures for critical operations like casing running and cementing.
  • Participates in performance discussions to improve daily footage and reduce downtime.
  • Implements contingency plans at the rig site.
  • Prepares daily cost estimates based on consumables and services.
  • Signs off on services performed and materials used.

Communication

  • Prepares and communicates accurate daily morning reports with contributions from relevant service companies.
  • Regularly updates the Superintendent or Drilling Manager on daily operations.
  • Communicates with the rig contractor via the Toolpusher/Rig Manager.
  • Discusses material requests with logistics coordinators and third parties.
  • Identifies the need for Management of Change (MOC) and communicates issues to the Drilling Superintendent and/or Senior Well Engineer.
  • Documents and reports any failures, accidents, or incidents immediately.
  • Ensures proper handover to relief personnel.

IV. Competencies and Behavior

The Wellsite Leader should have relevant experience, typically at least 10 years of seniority in oilfield drilling positions.

Minimum of 10 years of experience required.
