Main Duties and Responsibilities/Performance Standards:

1. Clinical Responsibilities

  • Prevent the spread of infection at home and in the client's room.
  • Educate family members on safety measures for newborns or elderly patients.
  • Document all activities on the patient data sheet.
  • Inform supervisors and families of any changes or deterioration in the client's condition.
  • Bath the client (newborn, bedridden, ambulatory).
  • Dress the client, assisting as needed from total dependence to independent dressing.
  • Assist with elimination, including bedpans, urinals, incontinent care, and bathroom assistance.
  • Change bedding for bedridden patients.
  • Perform catheter care, including emptying drainage bags and recording intake/output.
  • Assist in feeding, serve meals, hydrate, and prepare formulas for newborns.
  • Assist with range of motion exercises and positioning to prevent bedsores.
  • Assist with ambulation or transport using wheelchairs, walkers, or canes.
  • Organize the patient's room and preserve personal belongings.
  • Read for the patient if required.
  • Perform post-mortem care when needed.
  • Report misuse or damage of instruments or equipment.

2. Management Responsibilities

  • Charge for all consumables used.
  • Follow borrow-lend procedures for leased equipment.
  • Provide patient and family education as needed.
  • Establish good communication with patients and families.
  • Check and replenish the emergency kit/nursing bag daily.
  • Manage patients with infectious diseases appropriately.

3. Development and Planning

  • Develop prevention programs based on patient needs (e.g., bedsores, pneumonia) following Home Care guidelines.
  • Respect patient confidentiality and privacy.
  • Value patients' cultural and religious beliefs.

4. Physical Demands

  • Perform lifting and transfer tasks.
  • Bath patients independently.
  • Handle heavy weight patients safely.
  • Change patient positions as needed.
  • Work for extended periods standing.
  • Apply ergonomic guidelines while working.

Preferred candidate profile:

Education: Diploma in Nursing/GNM/BSN or equivalent. Must have completed at least three years of study following the Intermediate Certificate or equivalent from an accredited institute.

Experience: Minimum two (2) years as a patient assistant, assistant nurse, or related role.

Licensure: Valid registration with the Nursing Council of the applicant's home country, as per MOH requirements.

Language: Proficient in reading and writing in English; ability to communicate in English, with a preference for Arabic speakers.

Performance Competencies:

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Critical thinking skills to assess alarming situations.
