Open Source Software Developer

Join Canonical's team of talented developers who are shaping the future of open source software. As an Open Source Software Developer, you will work on the evolution of the Ubuntu Server platform, enabling cutting-edge technology globally. The ideal candidate will have a passion for open source software and be comfortable working in a distributed team environment. Key responsibilities include debugging issues, collaborating with upstream projects, and maintaining high-quality software standards. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to shape the future of Ubuntu by contributing new ideas and advising on work being done elsewhere.

You will work from home with occasional global travel for internal and external events. Your role will also involve owning the maintenance of Ubuntu Server packages, specifically traditional server workloads, virtualisation and containers, package management and dependencies, and language runtimes and toolchains. You will collaborate with other teams in the Ubuntu and Debian communities, as well as upstream projects and commercially supported customers.

To succeed in this role, you will need to be curious, flexible, articulate, and accountable. You should have a Bachelor's or equivalent degree in Computer Science, STEM, or similar field. Interest and experience in distribution development, debugging issues, test environment creation, administration and optimization of complex workloads, coding in Python, Go, or Rust, packaging or distributing software, and public clouds like AWS, GCP, Azure, Oracle Cloud, and IBM Cloud are highly desirable. Involvement in open source projects is a plus.

We offer a performance-driven annual bonus, personal learning and development budget, annual compensation review, recognition rewards, annual holiday leave, maternity and paternity leave, Employee Assistance Programme, and opportunities to travel to meet colleagues.
