**Developer Relations Engineer Role Summary**
This role combines technical expertise with diplomacy and communication skills to engage directly with open-source communities and developer-centric organizations.
The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of developers' needs and be able to effectively communicate this information across organizational boundaries.
The Developer Relations Engineer will contribute to product management team meetings, maintain conversations with developer community members, and collaborate across Canonical teams.
Key responsibilities include solving specific technical problems that users or colleagues have identified, contributing to technical documentation, and working on technical articles, presentations, or workshops.
The successful candidate will have an exceptional academic track record, a strong background in Computer Science or STEM, and a demonstrated engagement in open-source software.
Additionally, the individual should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as experience with Linux software packaging (deb, rpm, or snap).
The Developer Relations Engineer will also be expected to build trust, relationships, and confidence with colleagues, partners, and community members.
We are looking for a results-oriented individual with a personal drive to meet commitments and a strong ability to travel twice a year for company events and industry conferences.
The position involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to identify new opportunities in developer experience and presenting at conferences, meetups, or technical events.
The ideal candidate will have a compelling narrative about their alternative path if they do not hold an undergraduate degree in Computer Science or STEM.

The Developer Relations Engineer will play a key role in communicating our vision and products for better open-source development experiences and shaping our offerings and priorities through feedback from audiences.
Responsibilities include:
- Contributing to product management team meetings
- Maintaining conversations with developer community members
- Engaging on IRC, social media, product forums, meet-ups, and more
- Collaborating across Canonical teams
- Solving specific technical problems that users or colleagues have identified
- Contributing to technical documentation
- Working on technical articles, presentations, or workshops
- Identifying new opportunities in developer experience
- Presenting at conferences, meetups, or technical events
Requirements include:
- An exceptional academic track record

- Ability to travel in addition to upstream and industry events
Nice-to-have Skills include:
- Experience in a developer advocacy or community role
- Ops and system administration experience
