Locksmiths play a vital role in maintaining the security and integrity of various locking mechanisms found on doors, desks, compartments, mobile equipment, safes, and vaults.

This position requires the ability to work independently and as part of a team to install, repair, modify, and open different types of locks. The Locksmith will examine locking mechanisms, install new units or disassemble them to replace worn tumblers, springs, and other parts.

Maintenance and Repairs
  • The Locksmith is responsible for providing maintenance and repairs on various types of safes using hand tools, lathes, drill presses, and welding with cutting apparatus.
  • They must also install and repair locks (including mechanical and electronic cipher locks) to ensure the highest level of security.

In addition, the Locksmith ensures that all customers are approved by relevant authorities prior to accepting work-order requests.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Provide maintenance and repairs on various types of safes using hand tools, lathes, drill presses, and welding with cutting apparatus.
  2. Install and repair locks (including mechanical and electronic cipher locks).
  3. E nsure all customers are approved by relevant authorities prior to acceptance of work-order requests.
  4. Insert new or repaired tumblers into locks so that combinations can be changed.
  5. Provide training to customers on how to set their own combinations.
  6. Disassemble mechanical or electrical locking devices, repair or replace worn tumblers, springs, and other parts using hand tools.
Qualifications:
  • Education/Certifications:
    • A high school diploma or equivalent is required. A copy of the diploma must be provided.
    • A valid Secret Clearance is mandatory.
    • A valid driver's license and the ability to obtain a host nation Driver's License are required.
  • Experience:
    • A minimum of four years of experience as a locksmith is required.
  • Skills:
    • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills are essential.
    • Knowledge of lock picking devices, code cutting devices, hand/power tools, and key machines is necessary.
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities when making on-the-spot decisions for security and safety concerns related to work-ordered equipment.
    • Ability to communicate, interact, and work effectively and cooperatively with diverse groups.
    • Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, and utilize appropriate safety equipment.
  • Working Conditions:
    • The Locksmith must be capable of working in extreme weather conditions with temperatures exceeding 120 degrees Fahrenheit.
    • Indoor and/or outdoor environments with adverse conditions, including hot, dry desert environments with average temperatures of 30 degrees in winter and 130 degrees in summer months.
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Light work involves exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
    • Work may require heavy lifting, stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, and prolonged sitting.
