Developer Experience Engineer

We are expanding our scope to help developers build and deploy software efficiently across various platforms. This role requires a talented engineer with a passion for developer experience and tooling to make a positive impact on the day-to-day workflow of developers.

To be successful in this position, you'll need to be interested in packaging formats, build systems, and automation that can simplify the lives of developers and engineers trying to ship software. You will design and maintain specialist Python tools to support the build and publication process.

The team is responsible for tooling that builds snaps, charms, and more recently, rocks (OCI images). Snapcraft enables developers to deliver app updates to millions of Linux systems automatically, eliminating the long tail of supported releases and complex install instructions. Snapcraft supports thousands of applications from over a thousand developers, including well-recognised names like Spotify, Slack, and Microsoft.

Likewise, Charmcraft enables collaboration between charmed operator developers, and publication on Charmhub, home of the Charmed Operator Collection. Charmed Operators enable developers to package software right alongside the operations code that enables teams to integrate and operate that software at scale.

Key Requirements
  • You have expertise in Python programming.
  • You have a strong understanding of modern GNU/Linux distributions.
  • You have a good understanding of build systems and toolchains, including for cross-compilation.
  • Experience working with container technology, such as Docker, Kubernetes, and LXD.
  • You can extend the snap build ecosystem using your familiarity with languages, toolchains, frameworks, integrations, and CI systems.
  • You are able to work with external open source and commercial projects to understand how to better serve community needs.

In this role, you will work with a team that takes responsibility for building innovative solutions for developers. You will use your technical skills to design and implement specialist tools that support the build and publication process.
