Database Administrator Position

The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring the optimal performance, reliability, and security of SQL Server databases across an organization. This role encompasses database design, implementation, maintenance, stored procedure creation, and troubleshooting.

Main Duties:
  1. Database Architecture and Development:
    Create and optimize SQL Server databases according to application needs.
    Implement schema modifications to enhance database performance.
  2. Database Operations:
    Regularly perform backups to ensure data integrity.
    Apply patches and updates to maintain database server stability.
  3. Performance Enhancement:
    Analyze and monitor database performance, identifying and resolving bottlenecks.
    Optimize SQL queries and database settings for peak efficiency.
  4. Procedure Development:
    Design and maintain stored procedures, functions, and triggers to support application functionality.
    Optimize and troubleshoot existing procedures for better performance.
  5. Security and Compliance:
    Establish and enforce security policies and access controls to safeguard sensitive data.
    Manage user accounts and permissions, ensuring minimal access.
  6. Availability and Recovery:
    Sustain database replication, clustering, or mirroring for high availability.
    Develop and test disaster recovery plans to minimize downtime.
  7. Data Migration and Integration:
    Manage data migration projects and ETL processes.
    Guarantee data consistency and accuracy during transfers.
  8. Monitoring and Alerting:
    Implement database monitoring tools and set up alerts for potential issues.
    Timely respond to alerts and incidents to minimize downtime.
  9. Documentation:
    Keep detailed documentation of database configurations, processes, procedures, and stored procedures.
  10. Teamwork:
    Collaborate with developers, system administrators, and other IT teams to troubleshoot and resolve issues.
    Provide technical assistance to application developers and end-users.
Qualifications:
  1. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
  2. Proven experience as a SQL Server DBA or in a similar role.
  3. Deep understanding of SQL Server database management and administration.
  4. Familiarity with database design principles and best practices.
  5. Proficiency in T-SQL for querying, scripting, and stored procedure development.
  6. Experience with performance tuning and optimization techniques.
  7. Understanding of high availability and disaster recovery strategies.
  8. Knowledge of security and access control in SQL Server.
  9. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  10. Exceptional problem-solving and communication skills.
  11. Relevant certifications may be beneficial.
