Pediatrician (NICU) Job Description

The Pediatrician in a NICU at International Hospital is responsible for delivering high-quality medical care to critically ill neonates. This involves monitoring and managing newborns with complex medical conditions, providing comprehensive care, and administering medications as needed.

  • Key Responsibilities:
  • Patient Care:
    • Provide comprehensive care for critically ill neonates in the NICU.
    • Monitor and manage newborns with complex medical conditions such as prematurity, respiratory distress syndrome, infections, or congenital anomalies.
    • Perform routine physical examinations and monitor growth and development.
    • Diagnose and treat neonatal diseases and conditions.
    • Administer medications, including IV fluids, antibiotics, and other treatments as needed.
    • Oversee the use of life-support equipment like ventilators, CPAP machines, or incubators.
  • Collaboration:
    • Work alongside neonatologists, nurses, respiratory therapists, lactation consultants, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement care plans.
    • Communicate effectively with parents and family members to explain the newborn's condition and treatment plan.
    • Provide counseling and emotional support to parents during critical or difficult situations.
  • Emergency Care:
    • Respond promptly to neonatal emergencies, including resuscitation and stabilization efforts.
    • Make quick decisions in high-stress situations to ensure the safety and well-being of neonates.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records for each patient.
    • Document treatments, procedures, and patient progress.
    • Report any changes in the condition of neonates to the appropriate specialists or teams.
  • Training and Education:
    • Mentor and supervise medical students, residents, and fellows rotating through the NICU.
    • Participate in continuing medical education (CME) to stay updated on the latest neonatal care practices.
  • Quality Improvement:
    • Participate in quality assurance programs to improve care standards in the NICU.
    • Follow hospital protocols and best practices to ensure high-quality, evidence-based care.
