Job Description

This position is responsible for installing, repairing, modifying, and opening various locking mechanisms found on doors, desks, compartments, mobile equipment, safes, and vaults. The Locksmith Senior will work under the supervision of a Carpenter Lead and/or Trade Shop Supervisor to ensure that all tasks are completed efficiently and effectively.

Responsibilities
  • Cut new or duplicate keys using key cutting machines.
  • Open safes using drilling or manipulation techniques.
  • Install new or repaired tumblers into locks to change safe combinations.
  • Open locked doors without working keys by using lock picks.
  • Disassemble mechanical or electrical locking devices; repair or replace worn tumblers, springs, and other parts.
  • Repair and adjust safes, vault doors, and vault components.
  • Remove and apply interior and exterior finishes on safes and vaults.
  • Provide locksmith services and assist locked-out individuals in gaining access to their residences.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance inspections of lock assemblies.
  • Issue and receive keys and maintain spare keys in accordance with AR 190-51.
  • Conduct periodic and required key-control inventories to assure accountability.
  • Maintain supplies such as locksmith tools, hand tools, key blanks and tags.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
