The role of a Cloud Field Engineering Manager at Canonical

The Field Engineering team at Canonical consists of cloud solutions architects working directly with customers to design private and public cloud solutions tailored to their workload needs. Our products include on-premise solutions like OpenStack, MicroCloud, Ceph, and deployable solutions like Kubernetes, Kubeflow, Spark, PostgreSQL, etc. Team members deploy, test, and hand over solutions, and participate in presales conversations to provide technical advice.

A Cloud Field Engineering Manager manages a team, guides career development, represents the team technically, and collaborates with other teams and customers. Active participation in technical presales is also expected.

This role is home-based, managing a team in your time zone.

What your day will look like
  • Lead and develop a team of Field engineers in Presales and Professional Services
  • Solve customer problems by promoting our technologies and being a trusted advisor
  • Work remotely within a single major time zone
  • Coach, mentor, and provide career development feedback
  • Identify and measure team health indicators
  • Implement disciplined engineering processes
  • Represent your team and product to stakeholders, partners, and customers
  • Develop and evangelize best engineering and organizational practices
  • Plan and manage progress on goals and projects
  • Participate in leadership team collaborations
What we are looking for in you
  • Knowledge of cloud computing concepts & technologies such as Kubernetes, OpenStack, AWS, GCP, Azure, Ceph, etc.
  • Practical knowledge of Linux and networking
  • Experience in technical presales
  • Proactive, engaging personality with project and people interaction skills
  • Excellent communication skills in English
  • Passion and experience in developing and growing people
  • Leadership, coaching, and mentoring experience
  • Organized, ensuring timely, high-quality results
  • Strong academic background, ideally from high school and university
  • Willingness to travel up to 40%, attending events and customer meetings
