The role covers pipeline hydraulics, process performance, operating constraints, troubleshooting, modifications and development of associated facilities, including manifolds, pumping and compression facilities, pressure-control systems, metering interfaces and pigging systems.
Develop and maintain the engineering basis for operating decisions, capacity assessments, modifications and network expansion within the assigned scope and delegated authority.
Key Responsibilities
Pipeline Hydraulics and Network Performance* Perform and review hydraulic calculations for gas and liquid pipelines, including pressure drop, velocity, pipeline sizing, capacity, gas line pack and delivery-pressure requirements.
* Assess network performance under normal, peak-demand, minimum-flow, shutdown and contingency conditions.
* Evaluate the effects of source availability, consumer demand, alternative routing, pipeline outages and equipment limitations.
* Develop, maintain and validate hydraulic models against available operating data, documenting assumptions, fluid properties, reference conditions and limitations.
* Identify the need for transient, surge or multi phase assessments and perform or coordinate specialist studies, as appropriate.
* Recommend operating envelopes, debottlenecking measures and network improvements supported by documented engineering assessments. Process Engineering and Technical Documentation* Prepare and review design bases, process flow diagrams, piping and instrumentation diagrams, heat and material balances, process data sheets and operating philosophies.
* Perform and review process calculations for equipment sizing, pressure control, flow measurement and associated facilities.
* Review engineering studies, contractor submissions and vendor documentation for technical adequacy, operability, maintainability and compatibility with existing facilities.
* Verify consistency between engineering documents, available as-built records, field configuration and operating conditions, and initiate resolution of discrepancies.Operational Support and Troubleshooting:* Provide engineering support for pipeline operation, flow and pressure management, operating configurations, product quality and abnormal conditions.
* Investigate unexpected pressure losses, capacity restrictions, liquid accumulation, unstable control and other process-related abnormalities.
* Assess the effects of equipment unavailability, maintenance activities, source changes and consumer interruptions on network operation.
* Translate engineering findings into practical operating limitations, precautions and recommendations. Fluid Properties, Fuel Quality and Blending:* Assess pipeline suitability for cleaning, gauging and in-line inspection activities against the requirements of the proposed pig or inspection tool.
* Review internal restrictions, valve passage, bends, fittings, launcher and receiver arrangements, and available driving conditions.
* Support pig selection and review operating requirements, including flow, differential pressure, velocity control, tracking and receiving arrangements.
* Assess liquid handling, product displacement and operational constraints associated with pigging activities.
* Develop or review technical requirements and contingency arrangements for abnormal pigging conditions, including a stalled or stuck pig.
* Verify that pigging recommendations are supported by adequate pipeline information, suitable Isolation, Depressurization and Recommissioning:* Develop and review the process basis for isolation, draining, depressurization, purging, inverting, preservation and recommissioning activities.
* Assess relevant fluid behavior and hazards, including flashing, low-temperature effects, hydrate formation, trapped pressure and thermal expansion, where applicable.
* Evaluate the suitability and capacity of proposed recovery, disposal or receiving systems.
* Define process conditions and verification requirements for safe introduction or removal of hydrocarbons.
* Identify the need for specialist assessments and incorporate their findings into engineering recommendations.
* Support preparation and review of activity-specific procedures and readiness requirements before executionPipeline Integrity and Third-Party Activities:* Assess the process and operational implications of inspection findings, integrity concerns, proposed repairs and temporary or permanent operating restrictio
