We are hiring a Site Reliability / Gitops Engineer for our Information Systems (IS) team. This role is ideal for an 'automation-first' technologist passionate about Linux, seeking to build a career with Canonical and support the success of Ubuntu and open source products. If you have experience in IT operations automation, Infrastructure as Code, and a passion for technology, you'll thrive working with some of the industry's best at Canonical.
Job SummaryThe IS team supports and maintains all of Canonical's IT production services, serving over 60 million Ubuntu users. As an SRE & Gitops engineer, you'll drive operations automation across private and public clouds using open source infrastructure as code tools, CI/CD pipelines, and Canonical's automation products. You will also provide feedback to developers to improve product scalability and reliability, collaborating across teams and supporting a global SRE team.
LocationThis role is remote and open to any timezone.
Responsibilities- Develop infrastructure as code practices to enhance automation and processes.
- Automate software operations for reusability and consistency across clouds, considering distributed system complexities.
- Improve resilience and scalability of cloud and container portfolios.
- Maintain operational responsibility for core services, networks, and infrastructure.
- Enhance troubleshooting, capacity planning, and performance monitoring using tools like Prometheus, Grafana, and Elasticsearch.
- Collaborate on service architecture, documentation, and operational procedures.
- Support and collaborate with distributed engineering, operations, and support teams.
- Focus on larger projects and automation during dedicated development time.
- Share expertise and best practices within the team.
- Manage time-critical escalations.
- Deep experience with defining operations in code, version control, peer review, and CI/CD.
- Strong engineering background with peer review, unit testing, SCM, CI/CD, and Agile methodologies.
- Proficiency in Python, especially with large projects.
- Practical knowledge of Linux networking, routing, and firewalls.
- Experience with Linux storage solutions like Ceph and databases.
- Hands-on experience with enterprise Linux server administration.
- Extensive knowledge of cloud computing concepts and technologies.
- Bachelor's degree or higher in computer science or related field.
- Effective communication skills in English across various mediums.
- Motivated troubleshooting skills from kernel to web, with collaborative mindset.
- Flexibility, quick learner, and adaptability to fast-changing environments.
- Comfort working within distributed teams.
- Passion for open-source, especially Ubuntu or Debian.
