Position: Manager - IT Release Management

Group: Information Technology

Primary Job Purpose

The job holder is responsible for managing the planning, scheduling, and control of software releases across various banking platforms. He/ She will ensure that the implementation of IT changes, including software upgrades and patches, is conducted smoothly and in line with the bank's policies and compliance standards. The job holder will collaborate closely with development, operations, and change management teams to ensure timely and successful releases that support business objectives.

The job holder should therefore have a sound knowledge and understanding of the related Project Management frameworks, IT infrastructure Library framework (ITIL), the release management practices and processes together with their implications, and is expected to utilize, adapt and skilfully apply these to effectively support and successfully deliver the allocated IT projects within the specified timelines and allocated budgets.

Job Roles & Responsibilities:

Strategy, Planning and Management

Planning and Management

  • Develop and maintain the release schedule for the bank's IT systems.
  • Manage the release testing process, ensuring that new features or updates meet quality standards and are aligned with business requirements.
  • Establish metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess the success of release management

Operations, Review and Reporting

Understanding

  • Maintain updated knowledge of related frameworks, standards, rules, regulations, and related matters of interest to the department

Fieldwork

  • Create and maintain change records, including documentation of change requests, approvals, and implementation plans.
  • Coordinate with multiple stakeholders (development, testing, operations) to ensure proper preparation and execution of releases.
  • Develop, maintain, and conduct periodic reviews of Release Management framework, work instructions, and other relevant documents to ensure best practices are in-place.
  • Ensure all releases are governed by standard processes, including approvals, testing, risk assessments, and deployment plans. Maintain compliance with internal policies and external regulations.
  • Work closely with the direct manager to ensure that releases are well-aligned with change management processes. Manage risks associated with the release and develop contingency plans
  • Liaise initiatives to improve the efficiency and reliability of the release management process. Identify bottlenecks and implement process improvements.
  • Define release schedules and ensure that they align with business needs and objectives.
  • Coordinate testing efforts to validate changes and releases before deployment.

Review and Monitoring

  • Monitor and report on the status of release activities, including any deviations from the plan.
  • Monitor post-release performance and issue resolution.

Reporting

  • Generate and circulate scheduled periodic and requested ad-hoc reports ensuring their accuracy and timely delivery.
  • Prepare and maintain detailed documentation for release plans, approvals, and post-release reports.

Stakeholder Management

Internal Interactions

  • Participate in various cross-functional committees/teams for purposes like: executive team discussions, audits, etc. to achieve optimal cooperation and quality service.
  • Establish and lead weekly Change Advisory Team for release management with relevant IT stakeholders to plan releases.

External Representation

  • Coordinate with external vendors and third-party service providers to ensure smooth integrations or updates are aligned with the bank's IT systems.

Job Specifications

Educational Qualification(s)

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering or equivalent Computer/Software degree or Bachelor's degree in a mainstream engineering discipline.

Experience

  • Minimum years of related experience required: Manager: 7 years
  • Extensive experience in IT Systems projects and related processes, procedures and practices, including knowledge of related tools, concepts and methodologies preferably in a bank or a financial institution

  • Project Management (PMP, PRINCE2) Certification
  • ITIL/ITSM
  • Software Development Lifecycle Knowledge
  • Banking Operations
